ShaGrammy-winning Latina pop singer Shakira was born in Barranquilla, C lombia, on February 2, 1977. Her nick name is shaki. Her height is 5' 2" (1.57 m). She performs barefoot in most of her concerts.
Her father is a Lebanese-American settler and her mother a native of Colombia of Italian and Spanish decent. Shakira began her musical career at age 12 and quickly captured fans throughout Latin America. She won the 2001 Best Latin pop Grammy for her "MTV Unplugged" album.
Shakira wrote her first poem, entitled "La Rosa De Cristal" ("The Crystal Rose") when she was only four years old. As she was growing up, she was attentive watching her father writing stories on a typewriter, and asked for one as a Christmas gift. She got her wish at age seven and continued writing poetry.
